
President Luis Abinader held a bilateral meeting with Panama’s President-elect Jose Raul Mulino in Panama City, shortly before the latter’s inaugural. Abinader had traveled on Sunday, 30 June 2024 to Panama for the inaugural.
As reported, the two heads of government agreed to promote tourism and trade. The Dominican Republic has a Partial Scope Trade Agreement with Panama. The two countries also participate in the Alliance for Development in Democracy.
As reported in Prensa Latina, in the first of their bilateral meetings at the Panama capital city’s Sheraton hotel with the visiting heads of state and government who will attend the inauguration ceremony, Mulino stressed that the parties also agreed to strengthen ties of friendship.
Mulino underlined the interest in getting support from the DR to develop its leisure industry. He highlighted that Panama has everything to develop tourism but has had 10 years of stagnation. He spoke of the need to create jobs and increase hotel capacity. Among the advanced strategies, Mulino and Abinader agreed to promote international conventions, to which the Dominican leader indicated his willingness to provide advice to Panama, as reported in Prensa Latina.
