Kelvin Cruz, the mayor of La Vega and president of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu), issued a strong plea to the head of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, to take decisive action against the surge in micro trafficking in the city, as reported in Listin Diario.
Cruz warned that the situation is “getting out of hand” and could have dire consequences for the community. “I urge the honorable head of the DNCD, Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, a man who has shown his capacity and commitment to the fight against drugs, to pay attention to La Vega,” Cruz said in a statement.
The mayor stressed that “everyone knows where the four or five drug points are” in the city. “We cannot let mourning reach the homes of law-abiding citizens; hardworking men and women of this society,” he added.
Cruz acknowledged the work of Vice Admiral Cabrera Ulloa, whom he described as “an honorable man” who has “demonstrated his ability in the fight against drugs, seizing more narcotics in his four-year term than in the previous 20 years.”
The mayor’s call comes amid growing concern about the impact of micro trafficking on communities across the Dominican Republic. The illegal drug trade fuels violence, crime, and addiction, and it has a devastating impact on the lives of individuals, families, and neighborhoods, as reported in Listin Diario.
Cruz’s plea highlights the urgent need for a coordinated and comprehensive approach to combatting micro trafficking. This includes increased law enforcement efforts, public awareness campaigns, and support for prevention and treatment programs.
