Slow restoring of the Malecon parks

The city government has been slow in getting to the restoration of the recreation areas on the seaside of the Malecon damaged by the surf and waves of Hurricane Beryl. Listin Diario reports the Ministry of Public Works acted to restore traffic on the important road, but has yet to complete the cleanup of the southern side of the road.

The recreation areas were damaged by the rising surf brought by the passing of Hurricane Beryl. Beryl crossed about 300 kms to the South, but the waves caused much damage.

Listin Diario carried the story of how the restoration works have been slow in even cleaning up the debris. The city government (Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional) has not reinitiated repairs of the recreational areas.

The reality is that a very active hurricane season is forecast, and the city government may be considering waiting out the season through September, before investing again in restoring the parks.

The park areas were a joint effort of the city government and the Ministry of Tourism.
