Another vehicle falls in a construction hole; demands for more enforcement of protections

An accident occurred Thursday, 11 July 2024 in the evening when another SUV plunged into the void of a construction site. The recent accident occured a the site located on Anacaona Avenue, near Privada Street, in the National District.

A woman was reportedly rescued alive by the Fire Department and members of the 9-1-1 Emergency System. The identity and condition of the victim was not published in the media. The woman rammed into the New Jersey protections before plunging several floors. The construction site where the white SUV fell is identified as Ocean View Tower, El Nacional reported.

The accident follows the recent tragic ending of another driver and a woman in the front seat who dropped several floors under but did not survive the fall in Evaristo Morales. Two other women in the vehicle suffered nonfatal injuries.

Noticias SIN reports that the common denominator in these accidents has been that the construction sites are not implementing the necessary security measures to prevent pedestrians or drivers from falling into them.

Diario Libre reported there are more than 60 construction holes opened in the center of the capital city. Most have only Aluzinc sheets covering the hole and carrying advertising billboards.

Even government institutions maintain large excavations without adequate protection. Noticias SIN said that on the contrary, many of these are deep holes are used as parking when the construction works are on hold.
