Vice President Peña opens new fisherman’s wharf in Cabo Rojo

The Abinader administration inaugurated a RD$36 million new wharf in Cabo Rojo in the new tourist destination of Pedernales to assist local fishermen and provide shelter for their craft.

Over 50 small craft can now be tied up to the wharf, as well as ten boats with larger drafts. There are nearly 400 meters of wharf available. The project is part of the National Plan for the Construction and Rehabilitation of Fishermen’s Wharfs.

One of the attractions of the Cabo Rojo tourism area is precisely its fresh fish and seafood. The new wharf is a plus and is expected to have a major impact on the well-being of the area fishermen who will now be able to better serve restaurants in the area.

Vice President Raquel Peña did the ribbon-cutting honors, accompanied by Jean Luis Rodriguez, the head of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom). Rodriguez has always highlighted the program is having nationwide on area fishermen.

The new facility is part of the government’s plan to assist in the development of the entire province of Pedernales, the southernmost province of the country and one of the least populated and poorest.
