Major Girón Jiménez continues to share details of corruption scheme incriminates top brass in the military and Police

Major Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez shed light on Tuesday, 6 August 2024 regarding the alleged corruption network involving military personnel, which was exposed by the Public Ministry (MP) through Operations Coral and Coral 5G. According to the charges, the network reportedly handled at least RD$4.5 billion in properties and financial assets. The case is heard before the judges of the First Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo.

The names “Operation Coral” and “Coral 5G” refer to the merged investigations into an alleged network of corruption involving military, religious, and police entities. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, this scheme purportedly operated during the eight years of Danilo Medina’s presidency, embezzling public funds from the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep), the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (Cestur), and the National Council for Childhood and Adolescence (Conani).

A man of confidence of the military, Giron Jimenez set aside the evidence of what was going on from day one and for years. When the case reached the judiciary with the change of government from Danilo Medina to Luis Abinader in 2020, Giron Jimenez was one of the accused. He cut a deal with the Office of the Attorney General based on all the incriminating evidence he had compiled over the years.

The evidence directly implicates Colonel Rafael Núñez de Aza, the former financial manager of the Specialized Body of Tourist Security (Cestur), the top official at the Cestur, General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, and Major General Adan Caceres Silvestre, the former head of the security corps of former President Danilo Medina, among others.
