A blanket of Saharan dust will continue to cover the Dominican Republic, causing hazy skies and contributing to hot and humid conditions. The combination of this dust and a trough of low pressure will trigger scattered thunderstorms across much of the country in the coming hours, says the National Weather Institute (Indomet).
While the morning of Wednesday, 7 August 2024, will be relatively dry, the afternoon will see a shift in wind direction, increasing cloud cover and the likelihood of moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and strong wind gusts in the northwest, southwest, southeast, and the Central Cordillera. Particularly affected areas include Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, northern Azua, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Elías Piña, and San Juan de la Maguana.
A tropical wave located south-southeast of the Dominican Republic is moving towards Dominican coasts.
