The American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, popularly known as “Amcham” is coordinating efforts for a perishable goods export workshop with the World Trade Center Miami and several US federal agencies, El Caribe reports. The event is scheduled for the Gran Almirante Hotel in Santiago, the country’s second-largest city, on 19 August 2024.
The Amcham group is trying to promote the proper handling and logistics of perishable products to reduce the risks of rejection once these products reach the United States.
An entire “alphabet soup” of United States government agencies such as USDA, APHIS, and FDA are set to take part in the workshop.
The workshop also includes farm visits and to production facilities so participants can gauge the difficulties and challenges facing the producers as well as the importers.
