What’s coming for Abinader’s second term

President Luis Abinader says he will continue working for a more transparent government, he will introduce new initiatives to fight corruption in government, infrastructure works for the mass transit investment, promoting business and investment and social spending, when answering the question of a Diario Libre journalist at the La Semanal press conference on 12 August 2024. He also said government priorities will be to cut the deficits of the government-owned power distribution companies, continue the reform of the Police, and improve public education, and continue making investments in the health sector, including those that start the primary care program.

Abinader says he is working to leave a legacy of physical works and strengthening of Dominican institutions, once he leaves government in August 2028. He says his proposal to reform the Constitution is essential to maintain political and economic stability the country today enjoys. He insists the constitutional reforms are so that when a government has the majority in Congress, as his government will have, it does not abuse this privilege as has happened in other Latin American countries and in past administrations.

President Luis Abinader says that the efforts are that Constitutional reform strengthen democracy in the Dominican Republic.
