It’s hot and lots more of summer to go

In its weather report for Thursday, 15 August 2024, the Dominican Weather Institute (Indomet) says that the effects of the passing storm Ernesto are expected to diminish significantly, as the storm is north and is tracking over the Atlantic Ocean. A significant decrease in rainfall is forecast, with instead sunny and hot conditions forecast for most of the day.

In the afternoon the forecast is for scattered clouds, showers, and thunderstorms, particularly in the northwest, north, Central Mountain Range, and border regions.

With August being the hottest month of the summer, Indomet issues its usual recommendations:
• Limit sun exposure: Avoid prolonged outdoor activities between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Wear appropriate clothing: Opt for lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Seek cool environments: Find shaded or air-conditioned areas.
• Check on vulnerable groups: Pay special attention to children and the elderly, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
