The speakers for the 2024-2025 at the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate; Constitutional reform on the agenda

The Chamber of Deputies has announced the new spokespersons for the political party blocs that will be active during the 2024-2025 legislative year. The designations were made official during the Tuesday, 20 August 2024 session.

The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) bloc chose deputy Amado Díaz as its spokesperson, with deputies Luis Báez and Jaqueline Fernández serving as vice-spokesperson and secretary, respectively.

Representing the Fuerza del Pueblo party, deputy Rafael Castillo was chosen as the spokesperson, while deputies Seliné Méndez and Dulce Rojas will assume the roles of vice-spokesperson and secretary.

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) appointed deputy Gustavo Sánchez as its spokesperson, with deputies Geidy Musa and Damarys Vásquez serving as vice-spokesperson and secretary.

Furthermore, the parliamentary bloc composed of the Dominicanos por el Cambio and Alianza País parties named deputy Mateo Espaillat as their spokesperson, with deputies Braulio Espinal and Pedro Moronta serving as vice-spokesperson and secretary.

The Renovador-Liberal Bloc, representing the Cívico Renovador and Liberal Reformista parties, selected deputy Jorge Zorrilla González as spokesperson and deputy Onabel Aristy as vice-spokesperson.

The Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) announced that deputy Rogelio Alfonso Genao Lanza is the spokesperson for the PRSC, with the vice spokesperson being deputy Fiordaliza Estevez.

In the Senate, the PRM chose the senator for Hato Mayor, Cristóbal Venerado Castillo, as spokesperson for 2024-2025. The vice spokesperson will be Maria Mercedes Ortiz of Hermanas Mirabal and the secretary will be Gustavo Lara of San Cristobal.

The spokesperson for the Fuerza del Pueblo will be senator Omar Fernandez, who is the son of the party leader Leonel Fernandez.

The Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) and the Partido Primero La Gente (PPG) appointed senator Ramon Rogelio Genao Duran as spokesperson, and Casimiro Antonio Marte Paulino as vice spokesperson. Interestingly, Genao’s son is also the party spokesperson in the Chamber of Deputies.

On the agenda of Congress is Constitutional Reform. The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party is majority in Congress. The President this week convened the National Assembly (Senate and Chamber of Deputies) to study proposed amendments to the 2010 Constitution.
