
The Dominican Republic is set to celebrate its rich chocolate heritage with the Fourth Annual Chocolate Festival, scheduled to take place from 21 to 29 September 2024. The event is organized by the Consorcio Ambiental Dominicano, a local non-governmental organization that for decades has worked to protect diversity and domestic flora and fauna species, promote sustainable development, and to foster organic and regenerative agriculture and rural development.
This year the festival will feature a decentralized format, with activities planned across the country.
This year’s event aims to further develop a local chocolate culture, highlighting the delicious qualities of Dominican cacao.
A three-day showcase at Ágora Mall (27, 28 and 29 September) will offer a variety of experiences, including chocolate tastings, cooking demonstrations, and educational workshops. The general public is treated to tastings by leading producers and vendors. This is an opportunity to purchase top-rated chocolate produced by boutique companies that source the best cacao and use inputs such as macadamia, spices and fruits to enhance the flavors of their chocolate products.
A Chocolate Tour to Chocolate Mountain is offered on Sunday, 22 September. The tour takes chocolate lovers to Puerto Plata. The cost is RD$2,800 per adult, RD$1,400 children 4 to 10 years. There will be Chocolate Tastings on Monday, 23 September, Tuesday, 24 and Wednesday, 25 at 5pm at the Kahkow Experience in the Colonial City. Reservations are required at 809 669-1427.
There will be a Rum and Chocolate Tasting event on Sunday, 22 September at 4pm and another on Wednesday, 25 September at 7pm at the Tienda Definite Chocolate in Santo Domingo. Cost is RD$2,500 per person. Reservations 809 353-5367.
There will be an Explore Chocolate event on Tuesday, 24 September as of 5pm at the Agora Mall, first level. Reservations 829-213-2843. Cost is RD$2,300 per person.
The Sensorial Chocolate Tasting Event will be held on Wednesday, 25 September at 6pm and on Saturday, 28 and Sunday 29 at 11am at the Agora Mall. Cost is RD$1,500 per person.
