President Abinader highlights San Francisco de Macorís as a model of economic dynamism

President Luis Abinader was in San Francisco de Macorís on 28 August 2024 to participate in the opening of the Expo Mayorista 2024, the largest commercial event in the northeastern region. The fair features over 200 exhibitors from various sectors, including food, beverages, communications, beauty, and automotive.

Expo Mayorista is running from 28 August to 1 September 2024 and features over 50 cultural activities, including artistic performances, educational workshops, children’s attractions such as inflatables and mechanical rides, a zip line, cooking shows, and a food park.

Speaking at the event, President Abinader described San Francisco, capital of Duarte province, as a vibrant city that exemplifies the economic vitality of the Dominican Republic.

During his address, Abinader emphasized the government’s role in fostering conditions conducive to business growth, such as establishing legal frameworks and necessary permits. He highlighted ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects aimed at further stimulating the local economy. These include the opening of the Seventh Brigade of the Army and a new bypass, expected to be operational by February 2025.

Additionally, the President announced the forthcoming construction of a regional hospital, the reorganization of public offices, new educational facilities, and efforts to clean the Jaya River to enhance residents’ quality of life.

During the event, the Minister of Industry & Commerce Victor (Ito) Bisonó spoke about the crucial role of wholesalers play in the distribution of goods. He stressed the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen every link in the supply chain to ensure sustained and equitable economic growth.

Inapa Director Wellington Arnaud spoke of the over RD$7 billion the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (Inapa) will invest in the northeastern region in the next four years. Projects planned are
solutions for Las Guáranas, the first phase of sanitary sewerage in Pimentel, and improvements to the Villa Riva sanitation system. A major initiative to ensure potable water with an investment of RD$3.9 billion will increase storage capacity by over three million gallons.
