Dominican drug control authorities continue on the trail of traffickers, with more discoveries at ports. The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) seized 201 packages with 224.08 kilograms of cocaine at an agricultural company near the Manzanillo Pier in Montecristi last week.
“This significant seizure is a testament to the DNCD’s commitment to combating drug trafficking,” said Carlos Devers, spokesman for the agency. “We are working tirelessly to dismantle these criminal networks and prevent illicit substances from reaching our streets.”
Authorities have apprehended one individual in connection with the bust and are actively searching for additional suspects linked to the attempted shipment to Europe.
Meanwhile, the DNCD is now reporting on combatting micro-trafficking. The DNCD has begun to publish updates on its crackdowns to curtail the sale of drugs by minority retailers.
The DNCD reports that to combat small-scale drug trafficking, a coordinated effort has been made with the National Police and the Public Ministry. Raids across the Dominican Republic have been carried out resulting in the seizure of over 500,000 grams of narcotics and the arrest of 2,537 individuals.
The operations have led to the confiscation of substantial quantities of cocaine (366,109 grams), marijuana (118,744 grams), crack cocaine (17,458 grams), hashish, methamphetamine, and ecstasy.
In addition to the drugs, authorities seized 13 firearms, numerous bladed weapons, vehicles, motorcycles, cell phones, communication devices, body armor, scales, and other contraband.
The raids were carried out in major cities including Santo Domingo, La Vega, Santiago, and numerous other provinces.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD report on intensifying their collaborative efforts nationwide as part of new strategies aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks. These recent operations are part of a broader crackdown that has resulted in the seizure of over seven million grams of various drugs in 2024 alone.
