President Luis Abinader himself checked in to see the improvements at the Faro a Colón, the Columbus Lighthouse that houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Located in eastern Santo Domingo, the lighthouse was inaugurated in 1992 using a design from a British architect drafted in 1931.
The Faro a Colon is both a mausoleum and museum. You can find sections relating to the story of Christopher Columbus, to the Discovery of America and to the history and culture of countries in the Americas.
Combine the visit to the Faro a Colon with one to the nearby Los Tres Ojos underground caverns and water hole attraction. The renovated National Aquarium will also be reopening soon in the same eastern Santo Domingo area.
