The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) will be conducting its fourth National Earthquake Evacuation Drill on Wednesday, 23 October 2024 at 10am. This exercise aims to prepare the Dominican population for a potential seismic event and promote the adoption of appropriate safety measures.
The drill will involve practicing emergency plans, protocols, and evacuation procedures at the family, business, and institutional levels. The goal is to enhance overall preparedness and response capabilities.
COE director Juan Manuel Méndez García encouraged citizens to participate in the drill by registering on the agency’s website: www.coe.gob.do. “We invite you to practice your family emergency plan and evacuation routes at home, work, school, shopping malls, or wherever you may be,” Méndez García stated.
Additionally, the COE is urging the public to download guidelines on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake, as well as a guide for creating emergency plans. These resources are available on the agency’s website and social media channels.
This will be the fourth time that the COE has organized this type of drill. The previous three exercises were held in October of 2021, 2022, and 2023.
