A strange traffic incident occurred on Thursday, 10 October 2024 in the Ciudad Juan Bosch. Three persons in a family that had gone shopping were run over. Diario Libre reports that the video of the crime seems to indicate it could have been more than a transit accident.
The next day in the late afternoon, the driver, said to be a minor, reported the crime. The driver said he ran the family over because he did not notice they were crossing.
The relatives of the injured and deceased, nevertheless, had a hard time filing their report. Diario Libre explains that when the brother of the deceased, Alfredo Trinidad sought to report the incident with the Ground Safety Agency (Digesett), they were not allowed to file the statement.
Altagracia Trinidad would be buried on Saturday in Constanza. Her sister, Eulalia Trinidad is hospitalized in the ICU unit at the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital, with a broken arm and head injuries. A 14-year old girl is hospitalized at the Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital with severe head trauma.
Diario Libre reported that the driver of the SUV that impacted the family is the son of judge Mary Berenita Ramírez Jiménez of the Fourth Court of Instruction of Santo Domingo. Reportedly, the Mazda CX9 Suv, model 2024, still with exhibition license plates, was reportedly in the name of a minor. Diario Libre says the wealth statement of the judge establishes she has an 18-year old son and a 16-year old son.
The relatives complained that the driver has not been arrested. As reported in Diario Libre, they accuse the young man of purposely seeking to cause damage, but explanations are not given as to the possible reasons why. Both the young man and the family live in the Ciudad Juan Bosch.
“This was a crime. If you watch the videos you can see that this was a murder against my family. They wanted to finish off my whole family, I don’t know what their intentions were,” says Alfredo Trinidad, the brother of the deceased.
In the videos recorded by the surveillance cameras of the shopping plaza, it can be seen how the driver entered and exited the parking lot several times. Then he stayed parked for several minutes until the two women and the minors were about to leave.
The tragedy occurred on Thursday, 10 October 2024 around 10pm. The young driver reported the collision with his father, Victor Manuel Hernandez, on Friday at 5:25pm. He stated: I ran over the ladies when they were crossing and I did not notice.”
The family is concerned the judge may be pulling strings in her favor. The lawyer for the family, Polanco told Diario Libre that on Friday, 12 October, when he accompanied the brother to the Safety and Land Traffic (Digesett) office to declare the incident, they strangely were asked to present proof that the two people who were hospitalized had been admitted for a traffic accident.
Then, the Digesett of Santo Domingo East asked them for the deceased’s birth certificate, but they did not accept it when first presented because there was no proof of sibling affiliation between the declarant, Alfredo Trinidad, and the deceased.
They had to go to an office of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to obtain the proof to enable the brother to place the statement.
After several calls, the family of the deceased was authorized to file the complaint. However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had orders that the statement could not be received in Santo Domingo East where the tragedy had occurred because of the assumption that the incident had already been filed, the lawyer says.
The family then went to the Centro Automovilista, the private center for declaring traffic incidents, where they were told that they had to wait for a female prosecutor, but she was not there because it was Saturday night.
Finally, they were able to make their traffic report on Saturday around 8pm.
The family says on Monday, in the morning, they are going to file a complaint before the Traffic Court of Santo Domingo East and deposit a request with the Judicial Council to investigate the aforementioned judge.
