
The Chamber of Deputies has called on citizens to submit candidacies for the election of five members of the Chamber of Accounts for the 2024-2028 term. The members are chosen for four-year terms.
Aspirants have from 14 October 2024 to 14 November 2024 to submit their candidacies to the Chamber of Accounts Committee of the Chamber of Deputies that will be reviewing these.
The Chamber of Deputies is required to submit to the Senate a short list of three nominees for each of the five members of the Chamber of Accounts. The Senate then will choose the five members.
In June 2024, the Presidency enacted a new charter for the Chamber of Accounts to resolve internal conflict of interest among the members of the current Chamber of Accounts that impeded the accomplishment of the government auditing objectives.
The Chamber of Accounts selection process is opened in accordance with Article 83, paragraph 2, of the Constitution of the Republic, and Article 222 of the Chamber of Deputies’ regulations.
According to Article 17 of Law No. 18-24, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Dominican citizen in full exercise of civil and political rights.
- Demonstrate recognized ethical and moral integrity.
- Be at least 30 years old.
- Hold a university degree and be qualified to practice professionally, preferably in fields such as accounting, finance, economics, law, or related areas.
- Have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the specified fields, including leadership roles in public or private institutions, significant departmental experience, or relevant advisory roles. Time spent in each of these activities may be accumulated to meet this requirement.
