
It was an exciting game that was tied until the last inning. Albert Pujols’ Escogido Lions pulled off the win of the first game in the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship 2024-2025.
Junior Lake’s walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning would give the Escogido the thrilling opening night win 3-2 over the Licey Tigers, the champions of the last season, Diario Libre reported.
With the game tied at 2-2, Asencio retired Warming Bernabel and Martín Maldonado to set the stage for extra innings. However, Lake spoiled the party with a towering home run to left field, igniting a wild celebration among the home fans.
Jesús Liranzo earned the win for the Lions, while Asencio suffered the loss. The Escogido offense outhit the Tigers 9-6.
Other winners of the opening games were the Aguilas Cibaeñas and the Estrellas Orientales.
