Dominican Week to debut in Spain, showcasing culture and business

Dominican Week in Spain is set to take place in Madrid, Spain from 4 to 7 November 2024, organizers announced Tuesday, 15 October 2024. The event aims to promote Dominican culture, identity, and traditions while fostering stronger bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and Spain, Acento reports.

Over the four-day period, a series of activities will be held to highlight Dominican heritage and explore opportunities for cooperation, business, and mutual development, according to the Spain-Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce, the Dominican Week in Spain Foundation, the National District Mayor’s Office, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The agenda includes meetings with the Spanish press, bilateral discussions with business leaders from both countries and a variety of cultural events such as rum and tobacco tastings and recognition ceremonies for distinguished individuals in various fields.

“This event represents an excellent platform to showcase the Dominican Republic in the realm of international business and investment,” said Industry and Commerce Minister Víctor Bisonó during the event’s launch. “At the same time, it offers a valuable opportunity to exhibit our culture and the vibrant character of our people.”

Bisonó also emphasized the Dominican Republic’s role as a regional logistics hub, driven by the global trend of nearshoring. This strategy, he said, has “attracted significant international investment and strengthened the country’s infrastructure.”

Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía highlighted the significance of Dominican Week in Spain, stating that it represents a milestone in the relations and collaboration between the two countries.

The National District Mayor’s Office, she noted, is “firmly committed to supporting this event, which not only promotes our culture and traditions but also opens doors to new investment and cooperation opportunities between the Dominican Republic and the Kingdom of Spain.”

Francisco José Pérez Menéndez, president of the Spain-Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce, expressed that SEDE is a crucial opportunity to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Manuel García Arévalo, honorary president of Dominican Week in Spain, emphasized that the event seeks to exalt the entrepreneurial spirit of the Dominican diaspora, to strengthen relations between both nations, and to promote Dominican culture.
