President Luis Abinader appoints telecom expert to Indotel board

President Luis Abinader has appointed Tomás Hernán Pérez Ducy as a new member of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) board, according to Decree 563-24 issued on 3 October 2024. The appointment follows the naming in August 2024 of lawyer and politician Guido Gomez Mazara to preside the board.

The new appointment fills a vacancy on the five-member board, as mandated by Law 153-98 on General Telecommunications. The board is composed of five members, two appointed by the Executive Branch to represent public telecommunications and broadcasting service providers, and one to safeguard the rights of service users.

Tomas Hernan Perez Ducy is among the top Dominican telecommunications experts. At the time of his appointment, he was chief executive officer at Viva Bolivia based in the United States. Previously, he was the director of Viva telecom in the Dominican Republic. Among his other past positions, he has served as vice president and chief marketing officer for Claro Puerto Rico. He has a degree in economics from the PUCMM in Santo Domingo and a masters degree in international accounting and finance from London School of Economics at the University of London.
