Designated hitter Sandber Pimentel belted two home runs for the first time in his career, including a career-long 424-foot blast over the 411-foot wall in the Leones del Escogido’s 6-3 victory over the Tigres del Licey on Sunday night, 20 October 2024 in the opening week of the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship. This was the first time in his career that he has hit two home runs in a game.
The 30-year-old Santo Domingo native became only the fourth Escogido player to clear the center field wall at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal. Pimentel joined an exclusive club that includes Frank Howard (17 January 1960), Raúl Mondesí (13 January 1995), and Henry Mercedes (14 December 2001).
The win extended the Leones’ undefeated streak to four games in the 71st season of the Dominican Winter League.
The Leones lead the series with 4 wins. They are followed by the Toros del Este, Tigres del Licey, Estrellas Orientales, Aguilas Cibaeñas and Gigantes del Cibao.
The Leones are receiving extra coverage given that legendary Albert Pujols is now leading the capital city team.
