Despite conflict, Ukraine ranks among top European visitors to DR

The Russians and Ukrainians were the first tourists to return to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2020 as the country opened after the Covid-19 pandemic shut down, N Digital highlights. Direct flights brought thousands, yet with the start of the Russia vs Ukraine war, the flights were discontinued.

Now N Digital shares a surprising statistic. Despite the Russian-Ukrainian war, more than 24,000 Ukrainian tourists have visited in 2024.

According to the Central Bank’s latest report, 24,669 Ukrainian tourists have arrived to the Dominican Republic so far this year, ranking the country eighth among the top European visitor markets. This figure is particularly noteworthy given the challenges faced by Ukrainians due to the war.

Ukraine’s consistent influx of visitors underscores the strong appeal of the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination.

Otherwise, British tourists top the list of European arrivals with 123,687, followed by France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Poland.

In total, the Dominican Republic has welcomed 6,625,201 non-resident passengers by air through August, spending an average of US$167 per person per day and staying for over a week.
