Francisco Domínguez Brito, a member of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), has officially registered his candidacy for the party’s presidential nomination. He will compete against former President Danilo Medina (2012-2016, 2016-2020), who wants to continue to preside the former ruling political party. The PLD is now ranked third, behind the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), the Fuerza del Pueblo of former PLD leader, Leonel Fernandez (President of the Republic from 1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012).
The former senator and Minister of Environment expressed his commitment to a fair and constructive competition within the party. “We expect a united and strong PLD, renewed and ready to win back the trust of the Dominican people for the good of the nation,” Dominguez Brito has stated.
In addition to his presidential bid, Domínguez Brito is also seeking reappointment to the PLD’s Political Committee.
