Haiti continues to be DR’s second largest export market

Despite the ongoing political, economic and social turmoil in Haiti, the neighboring nation remains a significant market for Dominican exports. Hundreds of Dominican companies have desisted from doing business with Haiti. Yet, according to the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Dominican exports to Haiti have shown resilience, even amidst the challenges faced by the Haitian people, as reported in Diario Libre.

As of September 2024, official Dominican exports to Haiti totaled US$660.1 million, representing a slight decrease of 7.1% compared to the same period in 2023. While this marks a decline from the peak of US$1.04 billion in 2022, Haiti continues to be the second most important trading partner for the Dominican Republic.

Cotton t-shirts are the top Dominican export to Haiti, accounting for US$74.7 million in sales during the first nine months of 2024. The t-shirts are exported to Haiti for re-export to the United States.

Other significant exports include cotton fabrics, Portland cement, and wheat flour.
