President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña commemorated Constitution Day (6 November 2024) by celebrating the 45th Government Council on Wednesday, 6 November 2024 in San Cristobal. San Cristobal is the city where the 1844 Constitution was signed after the winning of the war of independence from Haiti.
During the meeting, ongoing development efforts in San Cristóbal province were discussed. Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza shared that the government has made strategic investments in the province, exceeding RD$25 billion, covering both completed and ongoing projects.
Minister Paliza highlighted that the meeting served as a comprehensive review of the government’s achievements since the first Council meeting in 2021. The discussion focused on key initiatives led by various government agencies, including the National Health Service (SNS), the ministries of Health, Education, Public Works, and Tourism, the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewage (INAPA), the Presidential Commission for Provincial Development, and the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EgeHID), among others.
According to Paliza, the Ministry of Public Works has completed 32 projects in San Cristóbal, with an investment of RD$6.4 billion. In the area of water supply, he noted significant improvements, including an increase in water production from 4.3 million to 5.3 million cubic meters, with an additional RD$2 billion investment. Furthermore, 14 more water-related projects are currently under construction, with a total investment of RD$1.4 billion.
EgeHID is also undertaking 46 diverse projects in the province, with a total investment exceeding RD$11 billion. These projects are part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts to return a portion of the revenue generated from water resources to the communities.
Additionally, Paliza reported that the construction of the Yaguate Traumatology Hospital is progressing, with an investment of over RD$2.4 billion. Other health infrastructure improvements are also underway.
“These projects are making a tangible impact across the entire province,” Paliza said. He also mentioned that several other initiatives are in the planning stages, which will further enhance development in San Cristóbal.
The government also announced that approximately 6,400 land titles have been distributed across San Cristóbal, as part of ongoing efforts to formalize property ownership in the province.
In his remarks, President Abinader emphasized that all the projects being implemented have been developed in consultation with local social sectors and were included in the government’s 2024 and 2025 budgets. Some, like the Yaguate Trauma Hospital, are expected to continue into the 2026 budget and are part of a multi-year planning framework.
The meeting, held at the Auditorio Mayor of the Loyola Polytechnic Institute, was attended by ministers and key government officials.
