Customs raids Chinese-owned stores in Santo Domingo and Santiago

The Customs Agency (DGA) announced it carried out inspections of a chain of Chinese-owned stores specializing in household goods and decorations. The inspectors sought information on the compliance of these businesses with Customs Agency regulations.

The DGA reported that suspecting potential practices that could undermine fair trade, the DGA conducted a raid on five Importadora Mudan stores located in various parts of the National District and Santo Domingo East, as well as one branch in Santiago de los Caballeros.

In a press release, the DGA stated that these inspections are part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat tax evasion.

The agency affirmed that these actions will continue as part of its commitment to fighting tax evasion and unfair competition.

Local merchants have repeatedly complained that the Chinese businesspeople are carrying out unfair commercial practices with the lenience of the authorities.
