
Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected in Santo Domingo on an official visit starting 19 November 2024. He will be the first Vietnam prime minister to visit the Dominican Republic. Chinh chose to make a stopover in the Dominican Republic after participating in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
PM Chinh accepted an invitation to visit from President Luis Abinader. The visit will be from 19 to 21 November 2024.
The government of Vietnam says the visit seeks to convey a message of Vietnam as a dynamic and reform-oriented nation that stands ready to take on global responsibilities, as explained by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh.
Binh explained that PM Chinh’s official visit to the Dominican Republic demonstrates Vietnam’s desire to continue consolidating and deepening the solidarity, friendship, and sound cooperation with the country ahead of the 20th anniversary in 2025 of Dominican Republic and Vietnam start of diplomatic relations. Over the past years, the bilateral ties have shown positive development, with regular delegation exchanges as well as rapid growth in the economic and trade relations.
The visit will create motives to promote the economic, trade and investment ties between the two nations, particularly in the potential fields of agriculture, industry, production of building materials, energy-oil and gas, telecommunications, and tourism, among others, added Binh.
Binh expressed his confidence that the diplomatic missions will reinforce Vietnam’s international standing while opening new chapters in the relations with Brazil and the Dominican Republic, contributing to peace, stability, and development in the two regions and the world.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) has announced that the official visit of Chinh aims to strengthen bilateral ties and foster connections with the business sector.
According to Mirex, the Vietnamese leader will arrive on the afternoon of Tuesday, 19 November landing at Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo. He will be welcomed by President Luis Abinader on Wednesday, 20 November at the Presidential Palace, where the two leaders will hold a private meeting, followed by an expanded session with delegations from both countries.
Afterward, both leaders are expected to address the press, with President Abinader hosting a luncheon for his Vietnamese counterpart at the presidential residence.
During his visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is also scheduled to meet separately with Ricardo de los Santos, president of the Senate, and Alfredo Pacheco, president of the Chamber of Deputies, at the National Congress. Additionally, he will lay a floral tribute at the Altar of the Fatherland.
The official agenda for the Vietnamese prime minister includes a business roundtable between both nations on Thursday, November 21. On the same day, he will deliver a lecture on Vietnam’s foreign policy towards Latin America and the Caribbean at the Eduardo Latorre Auditorium of the Institute of Higher Education for Diplomatic and Consular Training (Inesdyc) at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
