
Team Dominican Republic secured a first-time promotion and spot in the 2025 Gold Cup of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League. The Dominican national football team defeated Bermuda on Tuesday, 19 November 2024 playing in Group D of League B at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros.
Overall, the DR finished in first place in Group D after the victory 6-1 over Bermuda. Team Dominican Republic was undefeated in Group D. Bermuda also secured a Gold Cup Prelims spot as the second-best runner-up from League B.
The Concacaf report on the game against Bermuda states:
“Dorny Romero stole the show with four goals in stunning fashion as the Dominican Republic concluded the tournament with a 6-0-0 record.
“The first half ended 1-1 with goals from Romero in the 33’ and Djair Parfitt in the 45’+2.
“Romero got his second of the night in the 69’ as he rose for a header off a corner kick. Jean López penned his name on the score sheet in the 75’ when he buried a volley.
“Heinz Mörschel added one after capping off a brilliant passing sequence with a decisive strike in the 87’.
“Romero earned another pair of goals in the 90’ and 90’+4 to put a stamp on the result.”
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) is one of FIFA’s six continental governing bodies for association football. Its 41 member associations represent countries and territories mainly in North America, including the Caribbean and Central America, and, for geopolitical reasons, 3 nations from the Guianas subregion of South America-Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana (an overseas region of France). The Concacaf’s primary functions are to organize competitions for national teams and clubs, and to conduct the World Cup and Women’s World Cup qualifying tournaments.
The Dominican Republic plays in the Caribbean Zone of Concacaf. Other groups are the Central American Zone and the North American Zone.
