The “Bride of the Atlantic,” otherwise known as Puerto Plata, on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, will play host to 86 cruise ships this month, the regional director of the Ministry of Tourism in Puerto Plata, Carlos Atahualpa Paulino, reports in a press release. This is a record for the city and certainly reinforces the position of the city as a major player in the global cruise ship itinerary. Puerto Plata has two ports of call – Amber Cove (2015), and the newer Taino Bay (2021).
This month, Amber Cove, in the Bay of Maimon to the south of Puerto Plata city, will host 32 ships, and Taino Bay, in the city center of Puerto Plata, will receive another 54 cruise liners.
In fact, there will be four days in December when five ships will coincide at the same time in Puerto Plata, docking at the ports.
