Emilia Perez gets 10 Golden Globe nominations; Zoe Saldaña nominated

The Dominican Republic is celebrating Zoe Saldaña’s Golden Globe 2025 nomination for best supporting actress for her lead role as Rita in the drama/musical/comedy “Emilia Perez.” Saldana plays the main character in many intense and showy scenes (especially the musical ones) in the new film that can be seen on Netflix in Santo Domingo. Saldaña was born in New Jersey, USA of a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother and spent many of her career formative years in the Dominican Republic.

The Golden Globe Awards are annual accolades presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign. The awards are considered a major precursor to the Academy Awards (Oscars).

Jacques Audiard’s largely Spanish-language Emilia Perez received 10 nominations in the 82nd Annual Golden Globes award. Winners for the 2025 Golden Globes will be announced on Sunday, 5 January on CBS.

Emilia Pérez‘s record-breaking 10 nominations were followed by The Brutalist with seven, Conclave with six, and Anora and The Substance with five. Challengers, A Real Pain, Wicked, and The Wild Robot each picked up four.

In addition to the best supporting actress in a motion picture – musical or comedy for Saldaña and fellow actresses Karla Sofia Gascon and Selena Gomez, the film was also nominated in the categories of best motion picture, best director, best screenplay, best original score and best original song.
