
Dr. Jorge Marte, a renowned pulmonologist and former medical director of the Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine Diagnostic Center (Cedimat), has been appointed as the new ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Argentina, Altagracia Ortiz reports for Hoy. The appointment was announced in presidential decree number 658-24, which also included several other diplomatic nominations.
Marte, a graduate of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) with a specialty in internal medicine from the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has also specialized in critical care and intensive care at Havana’s Hermanos Amejeiras Hospital in Cuba.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Marte served as the director of the O&M University/Harvard Medical International School of Medicine project from 2006 to 2012. His extensive career in both the public and private sectors has earned him a reputation as one of the country’s top pulmonologists.
During the global Ebola outbreak, Dr. Marte played a pivotal role as an advisor to the Ministry of Health under the leadership of Dr. Altagracia Guzmán Marcelino. His expertise in respiratory medicine made him a crucial asset in the Dominican Republic’s efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
Marte is a highly respected figure in the medical community, having authored numerous articles in scientific journals and holding certifications in both pulmonology and internal medicine from the United States and Europe.
At present, given the availability of low cost air fares with Argentina, the country is receiving hundreds of Dominican tourists.
