Former Santiago Mayor and PLD presidential candidate Abel Martinez is off the hook after a DNA test disproved accusations that he is not the father of the teenage son of Keira Varela. She had pressed charges accusing Martinez of fathering the son when she was a minor. The accusations went public when Martinez was running for President in the 2024 presidential campaign.
Martinez accepted to undergo a paternity test at a New Jersey lab chosen by the demanding party. The lab test showed there is a 0% possibility Martinez is the biological father of the today 13-year old.
Everything began with the statements of Keire Vargas, who went live on Instagram to accuse Martínez of having “abused her innocence” and fathering a child with her when she was a minor over a decade ago. She also stated that the politician took advantage of her when she was 16 years old and “made her campaign for him.” She said that during that period she was very naive and allowed herself to be manipulated.
According to Vargas’s testimony, given in two videos, she met Martínez when he was a deputy of the PLD and she was a 16-year-old working on his campaign.
Yan Carlos Martínez Segura, Vargas’ lawyer requested the test be made in the United States given that the mother and son live in the United States. The two are US citizens, whereby her lawyer said the Dominican legal jurisdiction in Santiago is incompetent to handle the case. The lawyer ordered that Martínez appear before the competent New Jersey court and submit to a paternity DNA test in New Jersey.
