The Abinader administration is rocked by a slew of resignations of high profile cabinet officers. Over the weekend, the resignations of Minister of Economy Pavel Isa Contreras and that of Deputy Administrative Minister of the Presidency Dilia Leticia Jorge Mera were known to the general public.
Pavel Isa Contreras explained that his resignation is part of the ongoing activities to prepare for the merger of the Ministry of Economy with the Ministry of Hacienda. His resignation is effective 10 January 2025.
Pavel Isa had been appointed deputy minister at the Ministry of Economy at the start of the first term of President Luis Abinader. When Minister of Economy Miguel Ceara Hatton was sent to the Ministry of Environment, Isa was promoted to Minister of Economy in July 2022.
Jorge Mera was appointed to the position at the start of the first Abinader administration term in August 2020. She says she is resigning to dedicate herself to her private practice. She is a specialist in family practice. Her resignation is effective 1 January 2025.

At the same time, Minister of Higher Education Franklin Garcia Fermin says he is collaborating with the merge of the Ministry of Higher Education into the Ministry of Education.
