The Gigantes del Cibao and the Toros del Este were eliminated as the regular season of the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship came to a close on 29 December 2024. The Estrellas Orientales won the regular season with a record of 30 wins and 20 losses. The Aguilas Cibaeñas were second with 28-22, followed by the Tigres del Licey with 27-22. The Leones del Escogido, that had led the first part of the regular season, happily was able to grab the key fourth place and make it to the second round.
The round robin to decide the playoff teams begins on 2 January 2025. The last time the four Dominican baseball powerhouses—Estrellas Orientales, Águilas Cibaeñas, Tigres del Licey, and Leones del Escogido—faced off in the round robin phase of the Liga Dominicana de Béisbol (Lidom) was during the 1999-2000 season.
The semifinal is a round of 18 games and two off days, with the final game scheduled for Tuesday, 21 January 2025. Each team will play nine home games and nine away games, facing each of their three rivals three times.
The resulting two playoff teams will then compete for the right to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series, which will take place in Mexicali, Mexico starting 31 January 2025.
