Barrick has secured all the permits for the construction of the second tailings dam to extend the life of the Pueblo Viejo gold mining operation in the northcentral province of Sanchez Ramirez. To build the tailings dam, communities need to be relocated. Community leaders say they are not getting a good deal from the company to relocate. There are reports of people seeking to take advantage of the conflict and the relocation deal.
