Haitian manhunt underway for double homicide in Pedernales; Police warns on hiring undocumented workers

Authorities are warning employers to ensure their foreign workers are properly documented. The security issue of hiring Haitians without legal identification came to the forefront again with the recent murder of a merchant from Azua and his Dominican driver in Pedernbales, on the border with Haiti, with an undocumented Haitian the main suspect.

Pedernales authorities have launched a manhunt for the Haitian suspect who is accused of fatally stabbing a Dominican businessman and his driver. The victims, Juan Ramón Almánzar Pujols and Rafael Alcántara, were found dead on a farm in La Ceiba community on Saturday morning. Theft is the suspected motive.

The suspect, identified as Breison Pie, was employed by Almánzar Pujols. Both victims dealt in agricultural trade along the Dominican-Haitian border.

Police have released a description and photo of Pie, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The murder by Haitians of their employers is becoming increasingly common, resulting in the warning now issued by the Police that highlights the security issue of hiring those without documentation.
