Physics conference: Dominican minds at work

The Dominican Physics Society (Sodofi) held its VI International Congress, a series of conferences, talks and studies on renewable energy, water treatment, women in physics and semiconductors. Held last week, the event was sponsored by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Technological of Santo Domingo (Intec), a group known as Highly Adaptable Minds, and the Copy Center La Escalera. The event also had the collaboration of the Pontifical Catholic University Mater et Magistra (PUCMM).

With over 50 scientists from this country and from overseas, the congress was attended by students at all levels from all of the Dominican universities.

Given the recent push towards renewable energy, the Russian researcher Rinat Nasyrov of the University Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) spoke on improving the sustainability of electricity systems installing more renewable energy.

Researcher Eduardo Nicolau, from the University of Puerto Rico, offered a talk on polymers used in the filtering of residual waters. Physicists Lorenzo Caputi from the Università della Calabria in Italy gave an update on research on semiconductors.
