
The French film Emilia Pérez leads the 2025 Oscar nominations. The film scored 13 nominations while setting a record for a non-English-language film.
Zoe Saldaña is nominated for her first Oscar as Best Supporting Actress and also for her performance singing “El Mal”, among the 13 Academy Award nominations for the 2024 film directed by Frenchman Jacques Audiard. Saldaña is the daughter of a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother who spent her teenage formative years in the Dominican Republic and has kept close touch with the country.
She will compete for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award in the 97th Oscars ceremony with Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicita Jones (The Brutalist) and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave.). The award ceremony is set for 2 March 2025.
“Emilia Pérez” is a Spanish-language musical drama about a Mexican drug cartel leader who undergoes a gender transformation and dedicates herself to philanthropy in Mexico. The film is now the most nominated non-English language film in Oscar history
