The Escogido Lions have announced their roster for the 2025 Caribbean Series to be held in Mexicali, Mexico, from 31 January to 7 February. Players from the Toros del Este (TE), Tigres del Licey (TL), Gigantes del Cibao (GC) and Estrellas Orientales (EO) are added to the roster.
Key players include outfielder Socrates Brito, along with fellow outfielders Junior Lake, Zoilo Almonte, and José Marmolejos. First basemen Yamaico Navarro and Sandber Pimentel will also be on the roster, along with utility infielder Jonathan Guzmán.
Johnny Cueto will be one of the starting pitchers for the national champions, along with Jimmy Cordero, Alex Colomé, Diógenes Almengó, Phillips Valdez, Henry Sosa, Gabriel Ynoa, and Cesilio Pimentel.
The catchers are Randy Florentino and right-handed reliever Keury Mella.
Reinforcements include catchers Francisco Peña (TE) and Francisco Mejía (TL), infielders Robinson Canó (EO) and Gustavo Núñez (TE), utility player Cristhian Adames (TE), third baseman Kelvin Gutiérrez (GC), and outfielder Luis Liberato (TE).
The Dominican Republic will also have right-handed pitchers Esmil Rogers (TE), Brooks Hall (TL), and Emilio Vargas (GC) as starters. The bullpen includes left-hander Fernando Abad (TE) and right-handers Ulíses Joaquín (TL) and Joe Corbett (TE).
The Caribbean Series 2025 brings together the winning teams of the winter leagues in Mexico (Charros de Jalisco), Puerto Rico (Indios de Mayaguez), Venezuela (Cardenales de Lara), Dominican Republic (Leones del Escogido) and for the first time this year a guest team from Japan (Japan Breeze).
The Lions will be seeking their fifth Caribbean Series crown, having won the titles in 1988, 1990, 2010, and 2012. The DR with 22 titles has the most wins in the Caribbean Series, followed by Puerto Rico with six. The last Dominican title was won by the Licey Tigers in 2023.
The national team will depart for Mexicali this Thursday at 11am from Las Américas International Airport. The Lions’ first game will be against the Cardinals of Lara (Venezuela) on Friday at 5:30pm Dominican time (1:30 PM in Mexicali).
