An eight year old resolution of the city government of the capital city bans freight trucks from circulating on the Malecon. But given the present state of affairs with motorcyclists regularly violating the city resolution 2-2017, and parking is allowed even right under No Parking signs, and Digesett looks the other way. So, the truck drivers are doing their own rules breaking. Many have chosen to ignore the ban, Diario Libre reports.
Truck circulation is banned from the Luperon crossing of Autopista 30 de Mayo, on the west side of the Malecón, to the Port of Santo Domingo on the east end.
Now Digesett is giving it another try, with agents posted to order the trucks to stay off the Malecon.
Miguel Matos, coordinator of the Federación Nacional de Transporte Dominicano ( Fenatrado), the archi powerful truckers organization, says no one has sat down to talks with them and the ban was a measure set without consensus, as reported in Diario Libre.
Diario Libre explains that the heavy trucks were banned from circulating on the Malecon for the safety of pedestrians and light vehicles. The ban enforcement would have begun on 31 January 2025 and seeks to divert the freight trucks to use the Santo Domingo toll bypass road to the north.
