
The influx of Haitians via land crossings continues. Cramming people into SUVs and vehicles is a frequent practice, with drivers usually securing contacts on the road to let them pass. Every once and a while, and more commonly in recent months, the finding of vehicles packed with Haitians makes news.
The media recently reported on how 21 Haitians were being smuggled to their destination in the Dominican Republic in a Chevrolet Tahoe.
In another recent case, the driver of another vehicle jumped into an irrigation canal to avoid being arrested after caught smuggling people.
