
The Senate recognized businessman Fernando A. Capellán on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 for his significant contributions and career in the country’s economic and business development. Capellán manages the largest manufacturing business in Haiti, M-Codevi in Ouanaminthe-Dajabon with around 20,000 employees.
The recognition ceremony took place during the launch of the “Parliaments and Prosperity” program. This initiative aims to help legislative institutions adapt more effectively to changes in the political, social, economic, and technological environment. It promotes innovation in political-parliamentary work and the use of scientific evidence in creating legislation and regulatory frameworks.
Capellán, upon receiving the award for his contributions and leadership in the business sector, expressed his gratitude and stated that it motivates him to continue working for the Dominican Republic’s development.
“I thank the President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, for this unexpected recognition, as well as the legislators who are part of it. This recognition further commits us to continue working in our areas of expertise, to continue working hard and consistently in creating jobs, and to continue contributing to our country by making the greatest effort possible for its development,” said Capellán.
The businessman also acknowledged his team, emphasizing their essential role in achieving the positive results that led to this recognition.
“Thanks also to our entire team, the people who ensure that things are done correctly, with transparency and with great passion,” stated the President of Grupo M-Codevi.
In addition to Capellán, other prominent leaders from various fields were also recognized, including Frank Rainieri and Franklin Holguin Hache. The Sur Futuro Foundation, the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), and the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) were also honored.
The event was attended by Ricardo de los Santos, President of the Senate; Alfredo Pacheco, President of the Chamber of Deputies; Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS; Labor Minister Eddy Olivares; Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz; Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó,; legislators; and business leaders, among other notable figures.
Fernando A. Capellán Peralta is an industrial engineer and a licensed commercial pilot. He is the founder and president of Grupo M, which specializes in textile manufacturing, and Codevi, an industrial complex located in Haiti but strategically positioned on the border. Codevi has become a model of the potential for joint development between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Capellán promotes dialogue as the primary tool for interaction between decision-making sectors in the Dominican Republic and Haiti to maximize the potential of both nations.
In addition to his business activities, he has been a champion of actions that benefit environmental preservation, such as the Limestone project, which aims to protect the Luperón Bay, and the maintenance and reforestation of Pico Diego de Ocampo and Arroyo del Toro in the Cordillera Septentrional.
