Referencia Laboratorio Clinico (RLC) announced the opening of what it calls the most modern facility of its kind, the Molecular and Anatomical Pathology Lab. RLC has 80 service centers nationwide.
Minister of Public Health Victor Atallah Lajam and the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS) Mario Lama joined the president of Referencia, Patricia Leon for the presentation at the Hotel Embajador.
The new lab has accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This ensures that Dominican patients will have access to diagnostic services on par with those in more developed healthcare systems and positions RLC as a regional leader in detection and monitoring of complex diseases.
The state-of-the-art digital pathology platform has increased the sensitivity and accuracy of analyses, to provide results that were previously unavailable in the country.
“This is a crucial first step in ensuring that all Dominicans have access to quality cancer diagnosis,” stated Mark Kelly León. He further announced that RLC will continue to collaborate with stakeholders in the social security system to reduce economic barriers that hinder access to quality diagnostic tests for the entire population.
The event featured international speakers who addressed how the digital transformation of diagnostics is revolutionizing the treatment of numerous diseases with new diagnostic precision and while optimizing detection of diseases in early stages.
Another highlighted benefit of the new laboratory is the optimization of result delivery times. “Every day of waiting is anguish for those facing the uncertainty of whether or not they have cancer. With this laboratory, what previously took between 14 and 21 days is now reduced to just 72 hours, without the person or their sample having to leave the country,” Kelly Leon stressed.
