
The Central Electoral Board (Junta Central Electoral, JCE), through its Procurement and Contracting Committee, has announced the final timeline for the award of the contract related to the production of the new Dominican Identity and Electoral ID card.
The opening of credentials, technical proposals, and samples (Envelope A), as well as the submission of economic proposals (Envelope B), will take place on 25 February 2025 at 10am. This process pertains to International Public Tender JCE-CCC-LPI-2024-0001, which is aimed at contracting the company responsible for supplying the necessary equipment, materials, and services for printing the new ID cards.
Additionally, the JCE stated that according to the activity schedule set by the Committee, following the opening of the technical proposals, a proof of concept phase will take place, with 15 business days allocated for this stage. The first daily test session is set to begin on 19 March 2025.
Previously, during a 3 February interview for Sobre la Noticia on RNN, channel 27, member of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and coordinator of the Commission of Electoral Boards and Political Parties, Groups and Movements, Samir Chami Isa, said that the JCE plenary is advancing in the process of the renewal project of the Identity Card and Identity and Electoral Card, ensuring that more than nine million Dominicans will obtain the document in approximately one year.
Chami Isa had said that the JCE is headlong involved in this process and is currently purging the citizenry so that at the moment of requesting the document it is duly purged in the civil registry.
He explained, likewise, that the plenary is immersed in the work of bidding, logistics and socialization with political parties and all sectors of society for the renewal of the identity and electoral document.
He stressed that there will be a purged electoral roll and added that Dominicans and naturalized foreigners will obtain a modern polycarbonate card, laser engraved, gray scale photo, integrated chip and, in addition, will have the option of using the document physically and digitally (available on the cell phone). The IDs will also feature a QR code.
He added that the new card is designed for the future and it will have information on the incorporation of organ and tissue donor status, health data, among other aspects.
