CUNY offers fellowship to Dominicans

The City University of New York’s Dominican Studies Institute (CUNY DSI), located at the City College of New York (CCNY), invites Dominicans to apply for the 2025-2026 scholarship program for people of Dominican origin who face challenges that limit the expression of their ideas or hinder the development of their work in public spaces. CUNY DSI has received funds from the Mellon Foundation to support these scholarships.

The New York City university says that professionals who specialize in the field of humanities and humanistic social sciences, and work as intellectuals, teachers, researchers, writers, essayists, poets, journalists, social communicators, artists (plastic, performing arts, audiovisual, photography, music, etc.) are invited to apply.

The CUNY DSI seeks to contribute to strengthening and significantly expanding the right of people in civil society to freedom of thought and expression in countries with a long history of a fully established democratic system, such as the Dominican Republic, the United States and other countries around the world.

The CUNY Institute of Dominican Studies is part of the City College of New York, the oldest public institution of higher education in New York City.

It is not necessary for applicants to speak English.

Scholarship winners will receive round trip airfare, health insurance, travel and accommodation expenses for the professional to visit to one of the US Latin American studies entities that participate in the scholarship program. Financial compensation of US$40,000 for the scholarship period. And travel and accommodation expenses to make one or more presentations at a Dominican community organization in one of the five states with the largest Dominican population in the United States.

The fellowship periods are available for 25 August to 31 December 2025; 20 January to 31 May 2026 and 12 May to 31 August 2026.

The application deadline is 15 March 2025.
