David Collado promotes the Dominican Republic in Argentina

Statistics reveal that Argentina ranks as the third-largest tourist source market globally for the Dominican Republic, and the number one in South America, accounting for 40% of the Caribbean country’s total market share.

Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized during his participation in an Argentinean road tour that 57% of Argentine tourists visiting the Dominican Republic are brought in by travel agents and tour operators. He highlighted 2024 as the best year in the history of Dominican-Argentine tourism, with 272,000 Argentine visitors to the Caribbean nation. By January 2025, 51,243 Argentine tourists had already arrived.

The main obstacle to the development of the Argentinean market, nevertheless, are the costly visa obligations for Dominican travelers. Dominicans need to pay US$150 for a visa, but have to apply with more than three months’ time, or US$400 if a US visa is already in the passport of the applicant. Argentineans can enter visa-free to the Dominican Republic. Local authorities are lobbying with the Argentinean government to reciprocate. If this obstacle is removed, there is expected to be a boom in Dominican travel to Argentina.

In Argentina, Collado met with over 600 travel agents and tour operators and celebrated the success in attracting Argentine tourists.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the most effective promotional channel for the Dominican Republic in Argentina comes from Argentinians themselves, who share their positive vacation experiences in the Caribbean nation. However, travel agencies and tour operators serve as the second most influential channel for promotion and sales.

The Dominican Ministry of Tourism’s marketing efforts have been instrumental in attracting Argentine tourists. January 2025 saw the largest monthly influx of tourists in history, with a 104% increase, effectively doubling arrivals compared to January 2024, and breaking the record set in December 2024.

The Ministry of Tourism highlighted Argentina’s position as the third-largest global source market for the Dominican Republic, and the top source market in South America with 40% of the market share, is a testament to the success of these promotional efforts. Looking ahead to 2025, projections suggest even higher numbers, with current bookings for the remainder of the year already surpassing 97% of those made last year.
