Teatro Ciego, also known as Blind Theater, the Argentine theater group that stages performances in complete darkness, is here in Santo Domingo for performances this weekend at the venue of the former Mango TV channel, Av. 27 de Febrero 308 on 13, 14, 15 and 16 February 2025. Tickets are available online and cost RD$5,000.
In the absence of sight, the production engages the audience’s senses of sound, smell, touch, and taste to create an immersive experience. The audience experiences the performance through heightened senses.
The Teatro Ciego technique originated in 1991 in Córdoba, Argentina, inspired by meditation techniques practiced in Tibetan Zen temples. In 2008, Gerardo Bentatti and Martín Bondone established the Centro Argentino de Teatro Ciego, the first theater in the world dedicated to performances in complete darkness.
Teatro Ciego is recognized as a project of Social and Cultural Interest by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and has received awards for promoting accessible art. It integrates visually impaired individuals as actors, musicians, technicians, and waiters, fostering an inclusive work environment.
