The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) significantly strengthened its canine units (K9) with the addition of 55 highly trained dogs from Colombia to work in the fight crime.
The dogs, representing breeds such as Belgian Malinois, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Labrador, and Dutch Shepherd, have been trained to detect a wide range of illicit substances, including narcotics and currency. Their expertise will be immediately deployed at major airports across the country, including Las Américas, Punta Cana, La Romana, Santiago, and Puerto Plata, as well as key seaports like Caucedo, Haina Oriental, and Manzanillo.
“We are delighted to welcome these exceptional canines,” stated Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, president of the DNCD. “Each bark is an alert, and each detection is a victory in our efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.”
