2025 kicks off with new visitor record in January

The Ministry of Tourism announced on 12 February 2025 a new record in tourist arrivals for the month of January. In January 2025 alone, the country welcomed 1,155,484 tourists, marking a 53% increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019, a 22% rise from 2023, and an 8% jump from 2024.

Tourism Minister David Collado announced the impressive figures, highlighting that the country received 759,929 visitors by air and 395,555 by sea. The United States led as the top source of tourists, followed by Canada, Argentina, Colombia and France.

Punta Cana International Airport remains the most popular entry point, handling 63% of arrivals. Minister Collado emphasized the government’s commitment to improving air connectivity and diversifying the Dominican Republic’s tourism offerings.

In 2024, the Dominican Republic received 8,535,701 non-resident air arrivals and 2,626,529 non-resident sea arrivals for a new record in visitations of 11,162,230.
